Gone For The Weekend: Kotor Montenegro

Outdoors and Food. A combination we will never deny. Although our weekend here in the states will most likely include both, its a place like Montenegro that makes our adventurous spirits wander.

Montenegro is a country in the Balkans, on the Adriatic Sea. It borders Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the north, Serbia to the northeast, Kosovo to the east, and Albania to the south. And in Montenegro is Kotor, a coastal town with a population of about 13,500. The stunning natural setting, nestled between hills and sea, hosts the Old Town Market; the focus of our "dream weekend."

The fresh food overflows in the stalls, while proud farmers house secret recipes and techniques for cooking, passed down for centuries.  Buzz words like "organic" and "free-range" are not needed in a place where the land nearby still produces for the locals. If only we were there...

We would spend the morning searching the vendor booths for all the food we could manage to bring along for the day. Then head to hills! The hiking options, like the open market, provide an abundance of options. Surrounded by five national parks, its no question that we would find an outdoor paradise. Until we actually see for ourselves, you'll have to go on the same virtual tour that got us so hyped on Montenegro in the first place.
