In a search for lost treasure off the coast of California, the team at OpenROV created a prototype for the Trident. The Trident Underwater Drone is the next step in making underwater exploration more accessible. Starting at $599 with optional add-ons, this technology is bringing the mysteries of the aquatic world to the surface.
The Trident connects to a Wi-Fi buoy to let you control it remotely, can run for up to three hours on a single set of batteries, and has a built-in HD camera with LED lights for capturing footage. Because radio waves do not travel well through water, the company built a cable to transmit data. You control the Trident from the surface with a tablet or notebook computer, or even a virtual-reality headset like the Oculus Rift.
"Search for sunken treasure, scout dive spots, or simply get footage of a reef or underwater canyon off shore."
